The VW managing board for Bosnia-Herzegovina announced it would
broaden its production in the Bosnian capital. The board's
chairman, Lothar Sander, said, the plans were that the Vogosca
plant should assemble annually about 1,000 vehicles of this top-
selling model of the German auto concern.
The VW plant in Vogosca currently assembles 3,000 Skodas. Eighty
(80) workers are employed for it.
The restart of the assembly of "Golf" cars in Sarajevo coincides
with the 30th anniversary of the manufacturing in the so-called TAS
plants which were co-owned by Germany's VW and the domestic UNIS
factory.
Until 1992, 350,000 cars, mainly Beetle, Golf and Jetta models,
were manufactured. Until the war, there were 3,500 workers employed
in the plants. In August 1998, a new company called "Volkswagen
Sarajevo d.o.o." was established and it started assembling Felicia
models of Skoda.
