ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - It will be absolutely harmful for Croatia to ratify the agreement on the Krsko nuclear power plant as Croatia would lose 252 million dollars in claims from Slovenia, while getting radio-active fuel and waste
which it has nowhere to store. In addition, the dismantling of the plant will cost as much as the construction of a new nuclear power plant.

Those statements were given at a news conference on Tuesday by two
experts: Esad Prohic, President Stjepan Mesic's advisor on
ecology, and Marko Branica, a professor of nuclear energy.
Branica said it was "impudent" to give false data about the Krsko
plant in the public, and he described the agreement as "something
beyond common sense".
He added that nobody wanted to say how much the dismantling of the
plant would cost and where the nuclear waste would be stored.
"One should know who is signing such a harmful agreement. We appeal
to members of the parliament to express their personal views during
the vote (on the ratification) so that personal responsibility can
be established," the professor said.
On behalf of the organising committing for signing a petition
against the Krsko plant, Darko Paljug addressed reporters at the
news conference.
The petition has been signed by over 50,000 citizens since 5 June,
International Day of Environmental Protection.
They ask the Government and parliament not to ratify the agreement
with Slovenia, Paljug said.
Paljug said he supported the HSLS (Croatian Social Liberal Party)
which was brave enough to refuse the ratification even at the price
of leaving the ruling coalition.
