ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - At a meeting on Friday, the Croatian Radio-
Television (HRT) Steering Council decided to inform the Ministry of
Culture, the government, and parliament that the HRT Council had
refused to re-examine the "unlawful" appointment of Zeljka Markic
as the editor of daily political programmes on Croatian Television
(HTV). #L#
Markic was appointed to this position in March by the HRT Council
but HRT's manager Mirko Galic rejected to confirm her appointment,
claiming that she did not fulfil the selection criteria. Markic
does not have a degree in social studies and does not have the
required four years' experience as an editor.
Galic was backed by the Steering Council which demanded that the HRT
Council re-examine its appointment of Markic. The Council,
however, rejected this request at its meeting on Thursday and took
the item off the agenda.
By rejecting this request, the HRT Council has turned a deaf ear to
HRT's general acts and has caused significant damage in the pubic,
the Steering Council claimed and intends to inform the Ministry,
government and Sabor.
