Chief State Prosecutor Mladen Bajic has confirmed that the Office
for the Fight Against Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK) and
the Prosecutor's Office are investigating whether there was any
wrong-doing in the use of the Diaspora's funds deposited in foreign
accounts and in the account Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)'s
foundation called the endowment of the Croatian state vow.
I am not sufficiently acquainted with the matter, and all I know
about it is what the media say. However, if the media reports are
correct, it is the case of the grave misuse of the funds, Tomcic
said.
He stressed that no outcome could be prejudged but the question
could be raised why the probe had not been launched earlier.
Tomcic believes that there has been enough time so far to discuss
this issue and such delays are the weakness of both the former and
current authorities.
Regardless of this delay, if there are serious indications that the
media allegations are true, an investigation must be carried out,
the parliament's president said.
