ZAGREB, June 26 (Hina) - The Croatian government expressed "concern
about the media's completely unfounded speculation with the names
of some people and publishing of unconfirmed information that these
people would be indicted by the Hague tribunal," the government's
public relations office said in a statement on Wednesday. #L#
"The public knows that the international war crimes tribunal in The
Hague has been conducting investigations, but such speculative
issuing of unfounded information upsets the Croatian public, harms
the people whose names are mentioned, and burdens and harms the
cooperation between Croatia and the International Criminal
Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia," the statement said.
Wednesday's issue of the Globus weekly cites foreign diplomats in
Zagreb, close to the tribunal, as saying that the tribunal's
prosecution is preparing six new indictments against Croatian
citizens which would pertain not only to the military leadership in
the operations "Medak Pocket" and "Storm", but also to individual
political officials from the period.
Globus says two of the six indictments should be made public by the
end of September.
