The book is a collection of works by several independent Serbian
intellectuals, including experts in sociology and politics,
published during the Slobodan Milosevic regime. The book was first
published in 1996.
The round table was the third such event on this topic organised by
the Heinrich Boell foundation, which is one of Germany's six
political foundations and close to the Green party.
The author of several articles in the book, Latinka Perovic, said
"The Serb Side of the War" was the testimony of a time. She said that
she herself posed more questions than she dared to give final
answers to.
There has to be some sort of normalisation of relations in order to
pave the way for further talks, she said. Many contradictions
dating back to pre-war times are still present and carry the threat
of new conflicts, Perovic concluded.
Authors Nebojsa Popov and Olivera Milosavljevic also spoke about
the book. Ivo Banac, Zarko Puhovski, Nadezda Cacinovic, Silva
Meznaric, Zoran Pusic, Lino Veljak, and others took part in the
discussion.
