By December 31, 2002, the state will return all property previously
allocated for temporary use, Granic said, adding that due to
technical reasons all property would be formally returned by July
1, 2003.
Tenancy rights will not be returned, he said, adding that he
expected a new law on areas of special state concern would provide
for the purchase of flats by tenancy rights holders who failed to
file purchase requests on time, while contentious cases would be
solved by courts.
Croatia will not encourage new refugee arrivals from Bosnia-
Herzegovina, he said, adding that solutions for those people had to
be sought in Bosnia-Herzegovina and in line with the Dayton peace
agreement.
The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Construction,
Radimir Cacic, announced the establishment of housing funds at the
local level, which he said would enable the lease of facilities
intended for different social categories.
There are currently 42,000 reconstruction request, of which 25,000
were submitted by Croats living outside Croatia, he said.
So far, Croatia has repaired 112,000 housing units on its own, and
8,000 units have been reconstructed with the help of the
international community, the minister said.
