ZAGREB, June 1 (Hina) - Unassigned police officers who have been
protesting in front of the parliament building in Zagreb for 74
days, demanding that their status be regulated, said on Saturday
that the report of the government commission in charge of
unassigned policemen was "shameful and false". #L#
According to the commission's report, 154 laid-off police officers
are to return to work, 189 would be employed with the customs
service and court police, while 491 are to seek new employment at
the Employment Bureau. The right to retirement was granted to 120
police officers, while 28 have found new employment.
"The report is shameful and false. I do not believe that that many
policemen will return to work in the police," said the leader of the
unassigned policemen, Filip Lacic.
Lacic claims that the commission did not include representatives of
the laid-off police but politically acceptable policemen.
He requested that requirements for the reinstatement of the laid-
off police be discussed in parliament and a new commission be
established to solve their problem. The protest of the unassigned
police will continue, he announced.
