The census results "are the results of history, war and
aggression," Racan told Croatian reporters. He said that "all those
who committed the aggression are responsible for the consequences,
including the exodus of Serbs".
Racan said this in announcing Monday's visit to the Swedish
International Development Agency which has helped refugees return
to Croatia.
The census cannot be changed, he said.
Unconfirmed data that there are four percent of Serbs in Croatia,
according to the latest census, gave rise to very stormy reactions
in some politicians representing the Serb national community.
In talks with Croatian reporters, Racan said "it is our duty to show
a civil Croatia which is capable of taking care of all of its
citizens notwithstanding their nationality," which includes the
adoption of the law on national minorities as quickly as possible.
Sweden and other Scandinavian countries have assisted Croatia,
Racan said and expressed hope they would continue doing so.
The Croatian government's intention is to speed up the return of
Serbs to Croatia, but also to try and influence the return of Croats
to Bosnia, Racan said.
