Commenting on the ninth meeting of Central European presidents,
Kostunica said the conference stressed the "importance of
integration processes in the Balkans" and sent out a message for
Serbia and Montenegro to invest efforts into preserving their joint
state.
"This meeting is a warning that one should make a new step and
transform the agreement on Serbian-Montenegrin relations into a
valid constitutional charter, so that we could avoid seeing a new
state attending some other Central European summit in several
years," Kostunica said.
The Slovene summit, Kostunica said, was particularly important
because it pooled the presidents of all former Yugoslav states,
which he said could not integrate into Europe unless they co-
operated among themselves.
"This is a region which has the political will to join European and
Euro-Atlantic integration processes, but it is fragmented, divided
by borders and lack of infrastructure," Kostunica said, adding that
his talks with other leaders focused on bilateral cooperation, the
situation in Kosovo, Serbian-Montenegrin relations, and
Yugoslavia's admission to the Council of Europe and rapprochement
with the European Union.
