The commander of the Stabilisation Force multinational division
for the southeast sector, General Marucie Amarger, recently said
that an explosion in any of the secret warehouses could cause damage
worse than the entire 1990s war.
The Hercegovina-Neretva Canton decided to offer full support to the
cantonal Interior Ministry to investigate the secret warehouses.
To date, four warrants have been submitted to the Municipal Court in
eastern Mostar against those suspected of being responsible for the
secret warehouses. One person has been arrested, suspected of
heading the production of arms in Herzegovina in 1995-6, when it is
suspected the shells found in the secret warehouses were
manufactured.
SFOR has been searching for another 4,000 shells which it suspects
are hidden in the Mostar region.
