During talks at the Chambers of Commerce of Macedonia and the City
of Skoplje Croatian and Macedonian businessmen expressed interest
in establishing higher levels of trade cooperation within a free
trade agreement signed in 1997. It was stated, however, that the
agreement did not contribute to intensifying co-operation.
Trade between the two countries last year amounted to USD104.8
million, the same as in 2000, which is a decrease of 5.5 percent
compared to 1999. Trade continued to decrease in the first four
months of this year, falling by 20 percent in relation to the same
period last year. Croatia exported USD16 million worth of goods to
Macedonia and imported USD10 million worth of goods from
Macedonia.
The two countries' trade is dominated by farming and food
products.
