ZAGREB, May 3 (Hina) - Journalists and employees from numerous national and local media joined on Friday in a five-minute work stoppage called "Five Minutes of Thunderous Silence", organised by the Croatian Journalist' Trade Union on
the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.

World Press Freedom Day was marked with the symbolic stoppage and
the reading of a protest letter by the SNH, which warned the
authorities, employers and public about the frequent violations of
the basic human and professional rights of journalists.
The protest was joined in by employees in all major media, from
Croatian Television, Hina, Croatian Radio and dailies to small
local media, the SNH said in a statement.
Zagreb radio stations joined in the protest by reading the protest
letter, while all major dailies stopped work for five minutes.
The SNH also noted that a large part of the media which do not have
organised union offices have demonstrated solidarity and joined in
the protest.
The protest, which is organised for the third time, was supported by
the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia, the
Independent Trade Union of Power, Chemical and Non-Metal Industry
Workers and the Democratic Centre party.
