UNION CONCERNED ABOUT SURPLUS LABOUR IN STATE ADMINISTRATION

ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - More than 30 percent of 5,428 persons currently employed in the state administration in all counties could soon become surplus labour, the Union of Civil Servants of Croatia said on Wednesday. As part of its efforts to reorganise the state administration, the government has been preparing a decree on the internal organisation of the offices of state administration in the counties. The decree is expected to establish the required number of civil servants and state employees. According to the Union data, more than 30% of those employees will be laid off. Vukovar-Srijem, Dubrovnik-Neretva and Lika-Senj counties have the most unfavourable situation with regard to surplus labour, the Union said. The process of reducing the number of civil servants should proceed gradually, over a longer period of time, the Union said, demanding that the government provide for surplus employees.(hina) np sb
