ZAGREB, Feb 12 (Hina) - The Croatian translation of "The ABC of
Community Law", a concise overview the European Union's juridical
system, was presented in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The publication was published by the European Commission's
delegation in Zagreb as an attempt to acquaint as many people in
Croatia as possible with the basic legal order and institutions of
the EU.
Presenting the book, delegation chief Jacques Wunenburger
commented on a recent poll in which Croatian citizens expressed
their views on the EU. The results, which indicate that a very big
share of the population wants Croatia to enter the Union, are in
line with trends in other transitional countries, Wunenburger
said. He added that it was odd, however, that 75 percent of those
interviewed cited "regional cooperation" as a negative consequence
of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement Croatia signed with
the EU.
Wunenburger maintains this answer points to a lack of understanding
of the very essence of the EU in Croatia as, he says, cooperation
with neighbours is the foundation on which the Union rests. He hopes
the publication will open a debate on such issues.
Croatia's European Integration Minister Neven Mimica said his
ministry would continue implementing its communication strategy,
aimed at better acquainting citizens with the advantages and
disadvantages of membership in the EU.
