A total of 8,589 polling stations in 180 municipalities, including 19
municipalities in the UN-administered territory of Kosovo, will close
at 2000 hours, and preliminary results are due to be released around
2200 hours. The Central Electoral Commission will publish final
results at 2000 hours on January 1.
Each party or coalition has to win the minimum of five per cent of the
vote in order to enter the parliament, automatically gaining at least
13 seats. Entire Serbia is one electoral unit.
Pre-election surveys have shown that only a few parties and coalition
will cross the electoral threshold, including the Democratic Party of
the assassinated prime minister Zoran Djindjic, the Radical Party of
Vojislav Seselj, the Democratic Party of Serbia of Vojislav Kostunica
and the G17 Plus list of Miroljub Labus.
The coalition of the Serbian Renewal Movement and New Serbia, led by
Vuk Draskovic and Velimir Ilic respectively, the Socialist Party of
Serbia of Slobodan Milosevic and the "Together for Tolerance"
coalition are also likely to win the minimum number of votes.
