I hope Serbia will choose the path to Europe, and we will help it in
it, Solana said, adding that the decision by some political parties
to nominate people indicted by the Hague war crimes tribunal as
candidates in the poll was not good and that it could be understood
as an unnecessary provocation.
Solana also held talks with Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic, who
said that his country wanted to take part in the process of
implementing international standards in Kosovo "if a mechanism was
found that would also include (Serbia's) interests."
The EU official also met Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Zivkovic and
was expected to meet other officials, including the leader of the
Democratic Party of Serbia, Vojislav Kostunica.
