According to a statement released by the PIC steering board on
Sunday, this body will fully support the implementation of
solutions which define the united city administration and
efficient mechanisms which would guarantee adequate
representation of all peoples in bodies of authorities.
A commission in charge of drafting the re-organisation of Mostar,
which comprised local politicians, finished its job last week but
failed to reach agreement on key issues, including the number of
units of local self-government and the system of the election of
local authorities. As a result, the international community's High
Representative to Bosnia, Paddy Ashdown, will have to have a final
say on the matter.
The European Union is expecting of Bosnia to solve the problem of
Mostar within its bids to join European integration processes,
Ashdown said.
Currently, Mostar consists of three Muslim-dominated
municipalities and three Croat-dominated municipalities.
