ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - Jezik, a magazine nurturing the culture of

marking the magazine's 50th anniversary. #L#
Jezik was in the main part a political magazine because it deserves
credit for promoting the awareness that language is one of the
principal components of the Croatian people's identity, said Ivo
Skaric, president of the Croatian Philological Society, the
magazine's publisher.
Due to political pressure in the 1960s, Jezik stated on the cover
that it was a magazine for Serbo-Croatian.
The magazine will continue playing an important role because of the
increasing influence of globalisation on the Croatian language,
said academician Stjepan Babic, voicing hope that young associates
will join the magazine in far greater numbers than at present.
