The head of the Zagreb-based Cultural Association of Ruthanians and
Ukrainians, Slavko Burda, recalled that the famine had been induced
by the Stalinist regime as a planned campaign to liquidate up to ten
million Ukrainians.
The campaign included the confiscation of crops, the destruction of
churches and other religious facilities, and mass-scale repression
of intellectuals and religious leaders, reads a statement which the
association plans to forward to the Croatian parliament and ask it
to condemn this tragedy in a resolution.
Tonight's event was organised by the Central Library of Ruthanians
and Ukrainians in Croatia, the Society for Ukrainian Culture and
the Zagreb-based Cultural Association of Ruthanians and
Ukrainians, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy.
