PRISTINA, Nov 2 (Hina) - The association of families of missing and abducted people during the war in Kosovo, has launched an initiative on signing a petition in which it asks international and local institutions to ensure the return
of bodies of killed Albanians, whose corpses were transferred to Serbia when the then Serbian authorities tried to cover up crimes, and to help shed more light on the destiny of missing persons.
PRISTINA, Nov 2 (Hina) - The association of families of missing and
abducted people during the war in Kosovo, has launched an
initiative on signing a petition in which it asks international and
local institutions to ensure the return of bodies of killed
Albanians, whose corpses were transferred to Serbia when the then
Serbian authorities tried to cover up crimes, and to help shed more
light on the destiny of missing persons. #L#
Citizens of Kosovo can sign the text of the petition until 1
February next year.
The petition will be handed over to UN Secretary-General Kofi
Annan, U.S. State Secretary Colin Powell, the European Union's High
Representative for Foreign Policy, Javier Solana, the U.N.
administrator in Kosovo, Harri Holkeri, Kosovo President Ibrahim
Rugova and other officials.
Four years after the end of the war, 3,500 people are still on the
lists of missing and abducted persons.
In spring 2001, 900 corpses of ethnic Albanians were found in mass
graves in Serbia. So far, only 153 of them have been re-buried in
Kosovo.
