The proposal about making those data public was made by the minister
in charge of veterans' affairs, Ivica Pancic, in September. He
explained his motion as a bid to inform the public, and particularly
veterans, on who has been allocated flats and loans and whether all
those beneficiaries deserved such form of the government's
assistance.
Legal advisors of the Croatian government have assessed that the
publishing of such lists could trigger a great number of actions
which might be brought by injured parties regarding the provisions
of the protection of confidentiality data.
