and the families of the dead soldiers. #L#
The federation called for an end to the defamation and
criminalisation of the war.
"We ask for the values of the Homeland War to be respected,"
federation chairwoman Vjekoslava Karesin told a news conference.
The federation passed this declaration in order to oblige the
incumbent and any future government and parliament to respect the
rights to which war victims are entitled.
It also insisted that the existing law on war veterans' rights,
adopted in 2001, should be declared null and void and that the
previous law from 1996 should be reintroduced with amendments on
better protection of disabled members of the families of war
veterans, unemployed children and the real value of family
pensions.
The widows asked the authorities to find and punish those who killed
their husbands and to force the aggressor to pay war damages.
The parliament was asked to discuss the responsibility of the
incumbent minister in charge of war veterans' affairs and of all
those who should be held responsible for consequences of the
enforcement of the 2001 law.
The widows urged the media to spread the truth about Croatian
veterans and members of their families and to stop being a tool in
the hands of politicians currently in power.
They also asked the Croatian Journalists' Society to find out who
was blocking media articles on veterans and the widows and children
of the dead soldiers.
