PRISTINA, Oct 5 (Hina) - Former U.S. envoy in the Balkans Richard Holbrooke called on Kosovo leaders on Sunday to protect Serbs in the province, saying it was the only way ethnic Albanians could hope to realise their political
goals.

He told reporters after talks with President Ibrahim Rugova that
Kosovo Albanians could not achieve what they had been asking for
years if Serbs in Kosovo had no protection and were subjected to
violence.
Holbrooke arrived in Kosovo yesterday with former U.N. civil
administrator in the province Bernard Kouchner. Their talks with
local leaders today also focused on Pristina-Belgrade talks due to
start in Vienna on the 14th.
