RACAN AND TOMCIC'S POLICY HAS COLLAPSED - SANADER

IVANEC, Oct 4 (Hina) - Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Ivo Sanader said on Saturday Prime Minister Ivica Racan and Parliament President Zlatko Tomcic's policy "has collapsed". He called on constituents to vote for the HDZ at next month's parliamentary elections because Croatia needed changes again. #L# Today the HDZ is much stronger and has a good platform for dealing with the main problems -- unemployment, foreign debt, corruption, inefficient judiciary, "the pessimism and despondency spreading through Croatia," Sanader said in Ivanec at an HDZ assembly for the third constituency. "Our message to voters is -- Croatia can do better. The authorities comprised of Racan, Tomcic and partners has to be changed at elections so that Croatia could get better. Racan and Tomcic are stringing the entire Croatia along and their policy has collapsed. This is why our motto is 'Let's Move Croatia'." The HDZ seeks that the official election date be set, Sanader said, adding that the party would reveal its candidates only then given that elections might be postponed until the spring. Commenting on the proclamation in parliament yesterday of an ecological and fishing zone in the Adriatic, Sanader said the HDZ had clearly said it was in favour of declaring an economic zone. "Unfortunately that wasn't the proposal that passed, but some hodgepodge of the SDP and HSS proposals did," he said, adding that the SDP (Racan's Social Democrats) and the HSS (Tomcic's Peasant Party) "pay no attention to Croatian national interests". Speeches in Ivanec were also delivered by HDZ's vice president Jadranka Kosor, deputies' club chairman Vladimir Seks, presidency members Marijan Drempetic and Miomir Zuzul, MP Ivan Jarnjak, and local HDZ leaders, all voicing hope in winning the elections.
