BUDAPEST, Sept 29 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and his host, Hungarian President Ferenz Madl, held talks in Budapest on Monday and attended the signing of a bilateral agreement on border traffic control. #L# Madl said the agreement would make it possible for the border between the two countries to remain completely open after Hungary joins the European Union in May next year. Madl said the visit of the Croatian president to Budapest provided fresh impetus for the development of relations between the two countries. He added that Hungary supported Croatia's efforts to join NATO and the European Union. Speaking of the protection of minorities, Madl said that the Croatian minority would have a seat in the Hungarian parliament and that there was a legal framework ensuring its full protection. Mesic said that relations between the countries were increasingly better. "We can and should cooperate in all areas, and it is particularly important for us to promote economic cooperation in order to attain European standards," Mesic said. "Our future is in Europe. Hungary has taken a step further, while we are trying to make up for what has been missed," the Croatian president said. (hina) vm
