ZADAR, Sept 18 (Hina) - A two-day international conference of the
European medium-sized cities' cooperation network, dedicated to
tourism, started in Zadar on Thursday. #L#
Speaking at the session, Tourism Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic said
that Croatia was a very poplar tourist destination, with advantages
such as a long and indented coast, a clean environment, healthy
food, a large number of national and nature parks, cultural
heritage, and safety.
In the past three years, Croatia has adjusted prices with the level
of its offer, and drawn closer to pre-war tourist parameters - in
1990 Croatia recorded 52.5 million overnight stays and last year 45
million.
In 2002, the country saw a net income of four billion dollars, and
this year expects the income to total about five million, the
minister said.
Attending the conference are a dozen representatives of medium-
sized European cities from Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Germany,
Croatia and other European countries.
The participants were welcomed by Zadar mayor Bozidar Kalmeta and
the head of the European cooperation network of medium-size cities,
Willi Gruber.
Representatives of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly
will tomorrow present Zadar city officials with an honorary
European flag in recognition of the city's activities on the
international scene.
