BELGRADE, Sept 15 (Hina) - Colonel Milomir Nastic, the head of the
information service of the Novi Sad corps of the Serbia-Montenegro
army, on Monday denied reports that the army was retreating from the
border with Croatia and that border control was to be taken over by
the police. #L#
Nastic was quoted by the Beta news agency as saying that "there is no
possibility of such a step because the police have still not been
trained to control the border."
It is the fact that the process of withdrawing the army from the
Croatian-Montenegrin border has commenced and that a similar
project exists in Serbia however, currently there is no way of
realising this project because the (Serbian) police have still not
been sufficiently trained for that, Nastic said in a statement.
Beta released Nastic's statement following a report on Croatian TV
on Monday evening that the army of Serbia-Montenegro was retreating
from the border with Croatia. Nastic added that the situation at the
border was calm.
