Barbir of his duties as head of the government office for drug
prevention. #L#
Barbir was dismissed at his own request, which he said was necessary
so as not to diminish the results achieved in the prevention of drug
abuse. He said that the current media campaign was detrimental both
to his office and to the government as a whole.
The Office of the Split County Prosecutor on Tuesday filed a request
for investigation of Barbir, the head of the Service for the
Prevention of Drug Addiction in the city of Split, Vedran Mardesic,
and the president of the "Help" association, Mario Puljiz.
The three men are accused of the illegal use of funds allocated by
the government office and the Split city government to the "Help"
association for fighting drug abuse.
The government also dismissed Deputy European Integration Minister
Mirjana Mladineo who will take up another office, and appointed
Orsat Miljenic, assistant minister, to replace her.
The head of the government's Office for Protocol, Wendy Zecic was
also today relieved of her duties at her own request.
