NATIONAL INFORMATION CENTRE REPORTS ON SITUATION AT FIRE SITES

ZAGREB, Aug 16 (Hina) - The fire that was burning on the island of Hvar in the past several days was contained around 6 pm on Friday and firefighters are controlling the fire site, the National Information Centre reported on Saturday. #L# The fire has consumed underbrush, forest and crops on an area of some 800 hectares. The settlement of Grablja has been left without power supply, which should be re-established during the day. The fire which broke out at Donja Gora overlooking Gornja Podgora near Makarska, consuming some 35 hectares of underbrush and pine forest, was localised yesterday morning. Firefighters are trying to put out a fire which re-ignited at Stilj near Vrgorac after it was contained earlier in the day. The fire which yesterday afternoon broke out in Zadar County in the area of Kasic-Paljuv-Smilcic in a partially mine-infested area is still burning. Firefighters have managed to reduce the fire front to some two kilometres with the help of two canadairs. Some 20 hectares of underbrush was consumed by a fire which broke out yesterday afternoon at Gorica near Veterinci settlement in Zadar County. The fire has been contained. The fire on Mt. Velebit in the Paklenica national park was localised on Thursday afternoon, but firefighters are still controlling the fire site. The fire which broke out yesterday afternoon in Raducic, four kilometres north-east of Kistanje, Drnis and Knin, was stopped from spreading onto the Krka national park late in the afternoon. Firefighters on the site were assisted by two canadairs. The road between Kistanje and Knin was closed for about two hours in the afternoon due to the fire. The fire at the Lonjsko polje nature park in Sisak-Moslavina County is still burning. Some 150 hectares of grass and cane was consumed by fire. The fire site is under control. (hina) rml
