SISAK SISAK, June 24 (Hina) - An investigating judge with the Sisak County Court, Ivica Plese, on Tuesday questioned a former police officer, Stanislav Gavron, 40, of Vojnic and a former member of reserve police units, Ivan Hubelic,
48, from Sisak. The two have been arrested for suspected war crime against civilians. The judge remanded them in custody and passed a decision on initiating investigative proceedings against the two, the court's president, Danko Kovac, informed reporters today.
SISAK, June 24 (Hina) - An investigating judge with the Sisak County
Court, Ivica Plese, on Tuesday questioned a former police officer,
Stanislav Gavron, 40, of Vojnic and a former member of reserve
police units, Ivan Hubelic, 48, from Sisak. The two have been
arrested for suspected war crime against civilians. The judge
remanded them in custody and passed a decision on initiating
investigative proceedings against the two, the court's president,
Danko Kovac, informed reporters today. #L#
Gavron and Hubelic were apprehended yesterday on suspicion of
having killed a Croatian Serb, Nikola Drobnjak, on April 5, 1992.
After the suspects' families spoke with their attorneys, Zeljko
Stankovic and Natasa Pifar-Mihelic, a group of some thirty Croatian
Homeland War veterans and representatives of veterans'
organisations who had been protesting against the arrests in front
of the court, dispersed after 3pm. They said they would gather in
protest again if needed.
The purpose of the gathering was to show support to the two arrested
who were among the first to stand up in defence from the Serb
aggressor in the Sisak region, said the president of the Sisak-
Moslavina County committee for Croatian Homeland War veterans and
victims, retired Lieutenant Colonel Ivica Pandza Orkan.
He said he had been told by the attorneys of the two suspects that
they were standing mute in the current phase of the investigation.
