ZAGREB, June 23 (Hina) - On the occasion of political daily Vjesnik's 63rd birthday, Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan inaugurated two new rotary presses worth 61 million kuna (EUR8.1 mln), whereby this media company became the owner of the biggest rotary press plant in Croatia. The government provided a guarantee for a loan for the purchase of the presses. #L# Recalling Vjesnik's history, the PM said the daily, with its respected writers, specific format and graphic design, "paved the paths of the profession and left its mark on decades of Croatian journalism and printing". CEO Rikard Pompe said the new presses would increase space for colour advertising and significantly improve print quality, as well as reduce the time required to print the newspaper. Since 2001, when Vjesnik was facing bankruptcy, the daily has halted a diminishing circulation, and the printing plant is making profits, said Pompe. He announced that in the battle for a better position on the market, Vjesnik would launch new magazines, commercialise its Internet edition, and enable online access to the daily's entire documentation.
