called "Faster to Europe with Better Results". #L#
Their revenue last year totalled 49 billion kuna (EUR6.5 bln), 30
percent up from 1999, while expenditure revolved around 44 billion
kuna (EUR5.9 bln), up 12 percent from 1999.
Said 24 companies generated three billion kuna (EUR0.4 bln) in
profits in 2002, whereas in 1999 they lost 1.2 billion kuna (EUR0.16
bln).
Prime Minister Ivica Racan said companies which were recently loss-
makers were now participating in the construction of roads, gas
supply systems, and hospitals, and improving citizens' lives.
The 24 companies will invest about 18 billion kuna (EUR2.4 bln) this
year, said Racan.
Deputy PM Slavko Linic said the main advantage of public companies'
successful results was that the profits stayed in the companies.
He said government members could withdraw from supervisory boards
to make room for new people who would continue the successful
business.
The film presented today featured the leaders of the INA oil
company, the HEP power supply company, Croatian Telecom, Croatian
Railways, the Croatia osiguranje insurance company, Croatian Post,
Croatian Waters, Croatia Airlines, the Croatian Postal Bank, as
well as Jadrolinija, Plinacro, the Croatian Lottery, Narodne
novine, Vjesnik, JANAF, Transmitters and Communications, Rijeka-
Zagreb Highway, ACI, Astra International, Plovput, and
Jadranbrod.
