ZAGREB, May 29 (Hina) - The State Inspectorate will on Monday submit
to the government a report on compliance with legal regulations on
overtime and work on Sundays and holidays in all companies and
branches of economy in Croatia, Chief State Inspector Branko
Jordanic said on Thursday. #L#
"The situation in that area is far much better than could be
concluded based on public attacks," Jordanic told Hina.
Most companies which operate on Sundays are doing business in line
with law and contracts between workers and their employers are
respected, Jordanic said, adding that black labour was a far more
serious problem.
Prime Minister Ivica Racan on Tuesday requested the State
Inspectorate to step up control in companies operating on Sundays,
but Jordanic claims that inspectors had been conducting controls
since January, long before the start of a recent campaign by trade
unions and the Catholic Church to ban work on Sundays.
Inspectors very often encounter illegal cases of overtime in almost
all branches of activity, including commerce, although this
problem is the most frequent in the construction industry, said
Jordanic.
