ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - A decision regarding the last wish of the
deceased General Janko Bobetko that Mirko Norac be present at his
funeral cannot be made by the government but by competent judicial
authorities, Croatian Premier was quoted by the state-run
television as saying on Tuesday evening. #L#
"As far as I am concerned, it should be seen what is possible and not
insist too much on a rigid form in these moments," Ivica Racan said
in his interview in a political programme.
Retired general Mirko Norac has recently been found guilty for war
crimes by a court of first instance, and is now in prison in Rijeka.
The premier did not say whether he would personally attend
Bobetko's funeral, adding that a decision on the issue could be
expected in a day or two after some consultations. He added that he,
as President Stjepan Mesic did, would allow that a decision on his
attendance at the funeral be made by protocol.
The premier reiterated that he was shaken by the news about the
general's death and that he had had fair relations with this retired
Croatian general, indicted by the UN war crimes tribunal at The
Hague.
"We respected each other even when we did not agree in political
matters," Racan said.
