The president of the Austrian Bishops' Conference, Vienna
Archbishop Cardinal Christoph Scheoborn said Central Europe needed
reconciliation because its history was full of rifts and the
Central European Catholic Day should show that Europe was not just
an economic project, but that it also rested on joint Christian
values.
Christians want to travel on the path of reconciliation to show that
faith reconciles and connects people where politics divides them,
he said.
Central European Catholic Day, which will start in late May in each
country, will end with a joint pilgrimage to Mariazell in Austria
from May 21 through 23.
Zagreb Archbishop Josip Bozanic said Central European Catholic Day
in Croatia officially started on May 31, when the 150th anniversary
of the Zagreb diocese and metropolis is marked.
The Catholic Church in Croatia wishes to create a union with others
in Europe, he said.
