Oil pipelines running from the Hungarian border to the port of
Omisalj on the island of Krk will transport around 15 million tons
of Russian oil per year, which would increase tanker traffic on the
Adriatic, where navigation safety is already inadmissibly
inadequate, the association's activists stated at a news
conference in Zagreb today.
They also warned about the danger of an environmental disaster
which could be caused by oil tankers and called on citizens to sign a
petition against the project.
Green Action is dissatisfied with Croatia's environmental policy
and believes it is below the level of citizens' environmental
awareness, the association's head Jagoda Mumic said.
