ZAGREB, April 18 (Hina) - Croatia's defence ministry on Friday
refuted allegations made in the latest issue of Feral Tribune to the
effect that Zagreb County's state prosecution had initiated
criminal proceedings, at the ministry's urging, against the
weekly's editor for disclosing a military secret. #L#
Feral Tribune says the proceedings were instigated by Minister
Zeljka Antunovic because the weekly unveiled a military secret by
writing about the real extent of an explosion which rocked the
"Duboki Jarak" military warehouse in Sesvete near Zagreb on 7 April
1994.
"Nobody at the Ministry of Defence, including Minister Antunovic,
has initiated the launching of any proceedings by the Zagreb County
State Prosecution against Feral's editor or journalists. The
Zagreb prosecution is evidently doing its job," ministry spokesman
Davor Denkovski told Hina.
Nobody at the Zagreb prosecution has been available for comment so
far.
Feral Tribune recently stated that a commission headed by the
incumbent military chief-of-staff, General Josip Lucic, had hushed
up the existence of deadly gases as a result of the Sesvete blast.
Minister Antunovic dismissed such allegations, stating they
represented "dealing with very serious matters in an amateur
fashion".
