ZAGREB, April 8 (Hina) - The 2003 cooperation plan of the Croatian
and US defence ministries comprises nine joint military exercises,
to be held in Croatia. #L#
Around 3,270 US troops, seven war ships, 13 planes and 25
helicopters and as many troops and military equipment from Croatia
will take part in the exercises, officials with the Croatian
defence ministry's international cooperation department said.
The largest military exercise, "Adriatic Phiblex 03", will include
light infantry troops, which are to undergo training for peace
operations at a military range. The training of the navy will take
place in the central Dalmatian sea theatre this autumn.
Military cooperation between Croatia and the United States dates
back to 1995, and is defined with a memorandum of understanding and
an agreement on mutual logistic support, and since early 2003 with
an agreement on defence cooperation and the prevention of the
proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The cooperation consists of 200-300 activities annually. According
to financial indicators, its value exceeds the amount of eight
million US dollars, which is secured by the USA.
