ZAGREB, April 18 (Hina) - Croatia's economy ministry will try to improve conditions in trade and make them more transparent by passing a consumer protection law, which is in parliamentary procedure, and an electronic trade law, to enter procedure in June, and by drawing up a new, integral, trade law. #L# Trade is a strong branch of the economy in Croatia, which last year employed 207,371 workers and generated 181 billion kuna (EUR24.1 bln) in turnover, the ministry said on Friday. The number of employees in 2002 rose by 16.1 percent from 2001, while the turnover grew by 12.5 percent. Last year also saw an increase in the number of outlets. The trade growth is the result of macroeconomic stability, including a low inflation and a stable exchange rate, the liberalisation of the foreign trade system, the growth of net disposable income, changes in banks' loan policy, and the development of credit card payments. Last year Croatian citizens shopped abroad less than in the past. In 2001 US$339.5 million was spent shopping abroad as against $231.9 million in the first nine months of last year. (hina) ha sb
