The talks addressed entrepreneurship, banking, Croatia's
candidacy for European Union membership and cooperation with the
U.N. war crimes tribunal at The Hague, parliament said in a
statement.
The delegation of the Australian federal parliament's trade
subcommittee and the joint committee on foreign affairs, defence,
and trade is in a working visit to Croatia.
Members of the Croatian-Australian Parliamentary Friendship Group
also took part in the talks.
Bruce Baird, the leader of the delegation, said Australia welcomed
the very good results Croatia had achieved on the economic front,
especially in light of the Homeland War.
Croatia-Australia cooperation is important also due to the
numerous Croat community in Australia, it was said.
Asked in which areas Croatia wished to cooperate with Australia,
Ivo Slaus of the Social Democratic Party said cooperation in
education was very important, particularly because of the lack of
personnel with a college education in Croatia.
Baird said cooperation was also possible in trade and investments,
health, information sciences and high technology.
The president of the Croatian parliament will soon visit Australia
at the invitation of his counterpart.
