The stand of workers about a possible general strike is very
important as it is the only way to force the government to back down
on its proposal for the restrictions of workers' rights, Kunst said
at a news conference.
The five trade union federations on Wednesday terminated
negotiations on changes to the Labour Law, after, as unionists say,
the government failed to accept the unions' proposals on severance
pays, dismissal notices etc., justifying the refusal with its
obligations towards international financial institutions.
The unions' representatives are expecting to hold talks with
Premier Ivica Racan on the matter next week.
