BELGRADE, March 30 (Hina) - The Serbian Interior Ministry stated on Sunday that five members of a unit for special operations, the so-called Red Berets, had participated in the abduction and killing of former Serbian president Ivan Stambolic in 2000. The unit's commander at the time, Milorad Lukovic a.k.a. Legija, paid each killer DM20,000.
BELGRADE, March 30 (Hina) - The Serbian Interior Ministry stated on Sunday that five members of a unit for special operations, the so- called Red Berets, had participated in the abduction and killing of former Serbian president Ivan Stambolic in 2000. The unit's commander at the time, Milorad Lukovic a.k.a. Legija, paid each killer DM20,000. #L# The police said that information about the fifth member of the group of Stambolic's kidnapers and assassins was obtained through operative activities in an investigation, but added it was not in the interest of the investigation to reveal his identity. The fifth member of the group is in prison, as are the other four, and was put in custody previously due to a number of criminal acts. The police said that Legija had kept for himself some of the money for Stambolic's murder, but it was not known how much. (hina) rml
