Mobile phones continue to invade the domestic market - a research
carried out by the GfK market research agency shows that 75% of
households have at least one mobile phone, which is an increase of
six percent in the last six months.
Along with fixed telephones, around 10% of households also own an
answering machine, seven percent have a fax machine, while less
than 5% use ISDN.
Single-member households, households with the lowest average
income - less than 270 euros - and households which earn their
income exclusively from farming have the least fixed phones - 86%,
83% and 87% respectively. Slavonia is the only region where less
than 90% of households (89%) own fixed phones.
The number of households with answering machines exceeding the
average was reported in Istria and Primorje - 22%. Answering
machines are owned by two-member households (16%), families with
high monthly incomes (17-20%) and people with higher education
(19%).
Fax machines are owned by 17% of households in Istria and Primorje,
while ISDN is owned by people with higher education (10%) and people
with high income (12%), with households in Istria and Primorje
owning the most fax machines (11%).
The research also shows that the number of mobile phones grows with
the number of family members, with families with children owning at
least one mobile phone.
The ownership of mobile phones grows with the growth of income,
families with monthly incomes below 270 euros have mobile phones in
33% of cases, while as much as 98% of households with income
exceeding 1,150 euros have at least one mobile phone.
Mobile phone holders are the most numerous in Istria and Primorje
(86% of households own at least one such phone), followed by Zagreb
(79%). Slavonia has the least households with mobile phones (around
60%).
