Asked by reporters about the possibility that there were different
stands of the top Croatian officials on the issue, Tomcic, who was
present at a conference of the Croatian returnees' association in
Osijek on Saturday, answered that there had been perhaps different
interpretations of what had been said but "there is no disagreement
in the basic propositions regarding the Iraqi crisis."
Croatia firmly believes that if the intervention was inevitable, it
had to be based on decisions of the United Nations' Security
Council, Tomcic said adding that "unilateral actions threaten the
functioning of a series of world institutions, from the UN and NATO
to the European Union".
In the case of a short intervention, everybody would be damaged to a
smaller extent, but if it (intervention) takes more time, there
might be serious consequences for the legal system in the world, the
Croatian parliament's president added.
