The action in Iraq will not influence America's option to remain
involved in the region both in a military and diplomatic sense, Bond
said.
He said that he was aware the operation in Iraq was difficult to
accept for many people in Bosnia, as in America. America has no
other ambitions in Iraq than to remove a threat and give back the
Iraqi people control over the country, he added.
The citizens of Bosnia should understand that America's motives are
sincere, the ambassador said.
The US has had to make some difficult decisions on interventions
around the world, including the Balkans, Bond said alluding to the
American attack on Serbia in 1999 during the Kosovo crisis and air
strikes on Bosnian Serb targets in 1994.
In his message to the Bosnian people, Bond said that the action in
Iraq was not unilateral because 35 countries had publicly declared
their support for the coalition to immediately disarm Iraq, of
which many had secured military and logistic support.
