BELGRADE, March 13 (Hina) - The prime suspects in Wednesday's
killing of Serbian Premier Zoran Djindjic are still at large,
Serbian vice premier Zarko Korac told Radio B92 on Thursday. #L#
Prime suspects Milorad Lukovic Legija, former commander of the Unit
for Special Operation aka "Red Berets", and Dusan Spasojevic aka
Siptar are at the helm of "most probably the best organised gang in
the Balkans, with million of euros they made through ransoms",
Korac said. He said the same Mob group had organised last month's
attempt on Premier Djindjic's life on a highway in New Belgrade.
"The group, which occasionally helped the country in conflicts with
Albanians in the southern Serbian towns of Bujanovac and Presevo,
had contacts in police and was prepared to go all the way through,"
Korac said. He added that the same group had its newspapers,
journalists and its people in the judiciary, particularly in the
state prosecutor's office.
According to Korac, Serbia is "a tragic country in which reformists
are being killed" and the purpose of the assassination of premier
Djindjic was to destabilise the country, prevent the functioning of
the government and parliament and call new elections.
"The group expects the so-called patriot forces to come to power,
which will show understanding for their war merits," Korac said and
added "the country would continue to implement reforms even though
it will be hard without premier Djindjic.
