A book of condolences was opened in the government's building
today.
All public services and public utilities on Thursday worked as
usual, but all plays and events were cancelled in cinemas and
theatres "until further notice". There will be no sports or
commercial events in Serbia for the time being, too.
The blockade of the Belgrade airport and of bus lines was lifted
last night, but the customs administration and border services were
ordered to step up control at all border crossing, according to the
Belgrade media.
Following a decree of the health ministry, hospitals and other
health institution also intensified their security measures.
Streets in the vicinity of the Serbian government's building are
still full with police forces, but traffic has mostly been
normalised in other parts of the capital. On Thursday, traffic in
the city was less intensive than normally. All cafes and
restaurants stopped playing music, according to local dailies.
The electronic media have reported on numerous commemorative
events in institutions and companies throughout Serbia, and
announced that the Democratic Party, whose leader was the late
Premier Djindjic, would hold a commemoration in the course of the
day.
The same atmosphere such as in the capital prevailed in other
Serbian cities and towns a day after the appalling assassination of
PM Djindjic.
