Deputy State Prosecutor Doris Hrast said he dropped charges against
Canic for lack of evidence.
Canic, who was the commander of the Croatian Army 118 brigade in
Gospic, was indicted along with Mirko Norac and Tihomir Oreskovic,
for ordering the abduction and execution of civilians in the wider
Gospic region in 1991.
After he was released from the Rijeka District detention centre
several months ago, Canic defended himself in freedom.
The Gospic Group trial resumes on Monday with closing arguments of
the defence and the prosecution.
