The charter was adopted unanimously by the parliament's Council of
Republics and with a majority of votes by the Council of Citizens.
The president of the latter parliament house, Dragoljub Micunovic,
announced a founding session of the new parliament for Monday when
the terms of MPs elected in Serbian and Montenegrin parliaments
will be verified. The parliament will also adopt a law on the
election of the president of the new union.
The successor to the incumbent Yugoslav President, Vojislav
Kostunica, will be elected after the law is announced in the
national gazette. The new president, who will also be the chairman
of the Council of Ministers, will have five days in which he should
appoint ministers, Micunovic told reporters.
